Learning to Love My Body

I watched a video not too long ago. It was a video of a woman who hated her body. To motivate herself to lose weight, she entered herself into a bikini contest and got into the best shape of her life. Problem was, after she hit her goal, SHE STILL HATED HER BODY. She picked herself apart until one day she realized — she was perfect just the way she was!

That video hit home with me. I was crying before 8:00 in the morning. I am who this woman used to be. I loathe my body. All I see in the mirror is that I’m no longer 125 pounds and thin and “perfect.” I look in the mirror and think I’m “frumpy and lumpy and fat.”

This video really helped open my eyes.

It made me think back to just the other night, my husband standing there staring at me with this little smile on his face. I asked him, “What are you looking at?” And he says to me, “You have the most beautiful body. I love looking at you.”

The funny thing is, I look back at pictures of me ‘then’ and I like me better now! I am a Mommy, this body has given me two miracles. And the man who looks at me every day with that “I love you” look in his eyes, he thinks I am perfect. So, I guess I am.

I am doing what I can to get my motivation back! You can read the rest of this article on SkinnyMom.com

Beyond the Baby Book – Preserving our kids memories

This article was originally published as Resident Mom content on Skinny Mom. To be taken to the original article, click here.

When our boys were first born, I swore I was going to be one of those moms who never missed putting a single thing in their baby books. They are now five and six years old and there are still quite a few blank pages!

I do, however, like to be able to look back on silly things they did and funny things they said, the days they took their first steps, first time saying their ABCs, etc.

For more recent memories, I am huge on taking pictures. I use Facebook as one of my scrapbooks. I may drive people crazy with all the stories and pictures about our boys but, really, isn’t that what Facebook is for?
Facebook has a new option with which you can tag your children in posts and pictures into their own “Scrapbook”. I am taking full advantage.

There are several other really cool options I’ve found for preserving our memories. Like starting our boys their own email address!

You can read the whole article and see what other cool things we do at http://www.skinnymom.com/beyond-the-baby-book-preserving-my-kids-memories/

Do you do anything interesting to save your babies memories?? I’d love to hear them!

Breakfast for dinner – Healthy French Toast

We LOVE breakfast for dinner.
But, since we’ve been trying to eat healthier I try to make a few swaps.

Wheat bread rather than regular or thick french bread.
Eggs of course.
Fat Free Milk. (yes, it works surprisingly well)
Sprinkle of Cinnamon and Sugar after they’ve been cooked.
Tonight I actually added Pumpkin Spice into the egg and milk mixture.
Fall Flavor!!! Divine!!!

In case you’ve never made French Toast here’s whatcha do!

Crack eggs into a bowl. (I usually go with 1 egg per 2 pieces of bread)
Add milk. I’ve gotten so accustomed to looking that I don’t have a measurement. It usually ends up looking like it’s 1 to 1 eggs to milk.
Mix eggs and milk with a fork.
Add in Pumpkin Spice if that’s what you’d like to do! (about 1 tsp)
Dip bread into egg and milk mixture.
Cook on medium high heat on both sides.
Sprinkle one side with Cinnamon and Sugar.

Thank a Police Officer

Photo Credit: The Police Family and The Knight’s Place

I cannot believe I forgot to post this yesterday.

I am a terrible wife.

Not really. But, you get my point.

I cannot express how very proud I am of my Deputy. Every. Single. Day.

He has to deal with so much that I cannot even begin to fathom.

Nothing makes  my blood hotter than people bad mouthing a Police Officer. Even though it may not be about him….it always feels as though it is being directed at him.

He and is fellow officers are my family. No matter if I’ve ever met them or not.

I just need to express my gratitude.

In this rushly typed “Thank You.”

Thank you for all you do.

Thank you for rushing in while the rest of us are running away.

Thank you for coming to our side in our moment of need.

Thank you for accepting the hardships that come along with ‘doing your duty’, because so many believe they are above the law.

Thank you, for risking your life so that I can feel my life and the life of my babies are safer.

And most importantly, thank you to my Husband. I love you and am so proud of you. You’re my heart and soul!

If you haven’t done so yet. Thank an Officer. They do more than you know.

3 Ingredient -Cinnamon Banana Oat Cookies

We have a weakness for the smell of cookies baking in our house.

Good thing I ran across this recipe somewhere….we’ve been making them so long I don’t even know where I saw them first.

Could you say no to this face?

They are delicious, healthy and SOOOOOO easy to make!

They are literally a 2 ingredient cookie. They are perfect with just banana and oats.

See the chunks of Banana??

But we like to add a little ‘sumpin sumpin’ to ours.

All you need are two large ripe bananas- the kind you are about ready to throw out- and a cup of oats. The additional ingredients are up to you!

I usually like to keep them simple. Today we made them with a sprinkle of Cinnamon and a sprinkle of Chia Seeds.
I could literally eat these for breakfast. And you know what?? If I did, it would be freaking okay!

Even if I ate 8 cookies I would basically be eating a banana and some oats.

You can’t go wrong. They’re healthy and everyone in my house LOVES them!

Give them a try!

The recipe is simple:

2 Ripe Bananas
1 cup Oats
1 Tbsp of Cinnamon
1 Tsp Chia Seeds

Take two ripe bananas and mix well with one cup of oats. Sprinkle in cinnamon and chia seeds to taste.
Place on a WELL greased pan (make sure to spray it down or you will have a huge mess on your hands – take my word for it).
Bake in the oven at 350° for 15 mins. Let them cool until they are able to be eaten.

We like ours warm out of the oven.

I’ve been told they will last up to 2 days in the fridge…..they don’t last long enough in our house to test that!

We have also made them with chocolate chips or walnuts.

Have you tried them before?? I’d love to know!

Ispy September Glam Bag

My Ipsy #SeptemberGlamBag
My Ipsy #SeptemberGlamBag

I’ve never been a big “girly girl”. Chapstick, mascara and powder and I’m happy.

I’m also frugal and hate spending money on something I don’t ‘need’.

But, over the last few years (I think it has something to do with being the only girl in a household of 4) I’ve started experimenting with different makeup colors, lotions and things.

That’s why I’m so glad I found Ipsy. For $10 a month ( that includes shipping!) I’m able to try all sorts of different things!

This month’s Ipsy bag does not disappoint.

I received a full sized three color shadow palette from NYX– I am a huge fan of their eye makeup.

A sample of Bayberry NATURALS Rosehip & Hibiscus Moisturizer.

A sample of VASANTI BrightenUp! Face Rejuvenator.

A sample of tre’Stique Matte Lip Crayon in Nantucket Nude.

A sample of Evelyn Iona Cream Blush in Ash.

I will be sampling and posting my thoughts about them all over the next week.

Stay Tuned!

10 Peanut Butter Recipes My Family Loves

Peanut Butter is a staple in our household. Our boys would eat it every single day if it was up to them.

Normal conversation over lunch boxes at night:

Me: “What would you like for lunch tomorrow?”

Boys: “Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich.”

Normal conversation when the Hubby wants something sweet:

Hubby: “I want something sweet.”

Me: “What do you feel like?”

Hubby: “I don’t know. Something with Peanut Butter.”

……See what I mean?? We’re a PB family……

So, I like to mix it up a little when I get the opportunity.

I was able to write a blog post for Skinny Mom about this very subject! (Have I mentioned I LOVE being a Resident Mom for Skinny Mom??)
